You've decided that you need an outdoor storage shed to properly store your tools and other outdoor items. You've looked at websites and you have gone to different stores to see what is out there. Unfortunately, you aren't able to find one that meets your needs. What are your two last options? You can hire a carpenter to build a shed or you can build one yourself. Luckily, you don't have to be a carpenter to build a shed. It can be done with some hard work, the right tools, store bought materials, and a good plan. You may also want to check to see if a building permit is required in your area. Question 1: The Location Where do you want the shed to go and is there enough room for the shed? Make sure that the area has enough height clearance. Question 2: The Foundation What kind of foundation do you want? Question 2a: Wood? Concrete? Question 2b: Is the ground already level? Question 2c: If not, how will you level it? Question 3: The Plan Do you have a rough plan of the shed you are going to build? You will need this to come up with a list of materials and measurements for your shed. You can bring this to a home improvement store and see if they will help you finalize your plan with the right materials. Question 4: The Materials and Tools Did you get all of the materials you needed and do you have the right tools to work with the materials? One of the most important parts of these questions is the foundation and the plans. You need to make sure your foundation is solid and that it will support your shed right from the beginning. Otherwise, you will run into problems further on. It is best to get the foundation correct at the start to help prevent future headaches. The second and equally as important part is the plans. Your plans must be thorough and cover all steps of construction from the material list to the roof to the final assembly. The plans should be drawn be someone with sufficient experience to make sure that the final product will hold together. The size and type of materials used in the construction should have sufficient strength to hold the weight of the roof and walls and any shelves you may decide to install. Now you are ready to start.
