A Guide to Buying a New Bathroom Furniture Suite PDF Print E-mail

When it comes to re-fitting your bathroom, if you're getting rid of an old bathroom suite you might like to replace it with something a little different. It may be worth thinking about a bathroom furniture suite.

Unlike a bathroom suite, which consists of a bath, basin, and toilet, or a shower suite, which is made up of a shower, basin and toilet, a bathroom furniture suite's standard components are a washstand or vanity unit with basin, and a toilet - either a standalone toilet or a back to wall or wall hung bowl with concealed cistern and a WC unit to match your vanity unit. You are then free to add whatever components your bathroom would most benefit from: incorporate more furniture for a fully fitted bathroom, select an L shaped shower bath for space saving practicality, or opt for a freestanding bath or large walk-in shower for a touch of opulence. The only limitations are the size of your bathroom and the depth of your wallet - in terms of choice, the possibilities are almost endless.

When picking out your new suite, do think about your favoured style of sanitaryware at the same time: it is always helpful to choose your bathroom furniture and sanitaryware together if possible, so that you can be sure the style of each piece is coordinated with, or complements, the next. So if you've chosen a modern, rectangular, wall hung vanity unit, for example, a squared off wall hung toilet and coordinated WC unit would be an obvious choice for a harmonious look in your bathroom. A traditional washstand, on the other hand, would better suit a close coupled toilet in a rounded shape, with some traditional design features.

In a smaller bathroom you could find that a furniture suite will save space. Far from being bulky items, many vanity units are narrow and shallow, and will fit easily into a tiny room or nestle into an alcove. As your vanity unit also provides you with some storage space, your bathroom furniture will help to lessen the obvious clutter in the bathroom, which will help to make a small bathroom feel larger. Remember to choose a short projection toilet or a corner WC to save space in a small bathroom.

And in a larger bathroom, some bigger bathroom furniture will provide you with ample storage space for all your odds and ends; luxuriously proportioned bathroom furniture such as an extra wide feature basin on a large washstand will look great next to, say, a large walk-in shower.
